چکیده

Navigational Blocks is a tangible user interface that facilitates retrieval of historical stories in a tourist spot. Orientations, movements, and relative positions of physical Blocks support visitor navigation and exploration in a virtual gallery of information. The goal is to bridge the gap and explore the boundary between the physical environment with a virtual information space. Visitors to a tourist kiosk can use the Navigational Blocks to manipulate a virtual environment and so learn about their physical surroundings. The Navigational Blocks system provides a physical embodiment of digital information through tactile manipulation and haptic feedback. The simple cubic form of the Blocks is easy to grasp and manipulate complex digital information. Electromagnets embedded in the Blocks encourage rapid rearrangement to form different queries into the database. Wireless communication modes make Navigational Blocks a ubiquitous device that could be inserted construction material in walls and floors or to control home automation.

Augmented Shelf: Digital Enrichment of Library Shelves

Libraries are well-known as work places and thus have a common way of everyday use. Unfortunately, there is a gap between the physical and digital contents of a library and its media. By expanding the physical, tangible media with digital information, many new possibilities for interaction would open up for users. With the help of a prototype, we want to show how it is possible to shrink this g...

Illuminating Clay: a Tangible Interface with Potential GRASS Applications

The development of cheaper and faster computation and the multiplying effect of open source initiatives such as GRASS have led to an increasing sophistication is GIS landscape analysis algorithms. Web based Collaborative Authoring Technology for Tangible Social Media

In this paper, we introduce web based collaborative authoring technology using social media & tangible media. We suggest improved collaborative authoring method using various metadata information (e.g., mood, weather, time, location) of each uploaded media for the collaborative authoring. Our system also provides the recommendation function for referring and adding the related media from the pu...

Information/Knowledge Design in Contextual Hypermedia Systems

"Our responses to the environment ... are determined not so much by the direct effect of external stimuli on our biological system but rather by our past experience, our expectations, our purposes, and the individual symbolic interpretation of our perceptual experience." Tangible Interfaces for Manipulating Aggregates of Digital Information

This thesis develops new approaches for people to physically represent and interact with aggregates of digital information. These support the concept of Tangible User Interfaces (TUIs), a genre of human-computer interaction that uses spatially reconfigurable physical objects as representations and controls for digital information. The thesis supports the manipulation of information aggregates t...
